What is Vertigo?
We can briefly define vertigo as dizziness. The Turkish equivalent of vertigo, which is already a Latin word, is "to turn". However, it would be wrong to call it just simple dizziness. Vertigo, which is not a disease in itself, is a symptom of other diseases that occur in the inner ear and nervous system.
Diseases That Cause Vertigo
- Benign positional vertigo related to inner ear crystals
- Vestibular neuritis, a viral disease of the balance nerve
- Manier's disease, which is related to the fluid system in the inner ear
- Neck, joint and muscular system diseases
- Hypo or hypertension
- Cervical vascular system diseases
- Some cardiovascular diseases
- Celebral hemorrhage
- Fluid leaking from the inner ear to the middle ear
- Superior canal dehiscence, where loud noises, coughing, and sneezing cause vertigo
- Migraine
- some medications
- Alcohol
- acoustic tumor,

Vertigo Symptoms
Vertigo patients feel circular rotation movements. If it is a severe vertigo, the person cannot move and experiences nausea, vomiting and balance problems along with dizziness. Sudden falls to the ground and feeling as if you are being pushed to one side are among the symptoms of vertigo. To list it in items:
- dizziness
- balance problems
- Darkening in the eyes
- Dizziness
- The need to walk by holding on
- easy fatigue
- Feeling like crowds are marching on you
Diagnosis
The symptoms listed above may be caused by other diseases. However, especially loss of balance, feeling dizzy, fainting and dizziness are common symptoms. Those who have such complaints should definitely consult an ENT specialist. Vertigo is diagnosed through examination and tests performed by the physician. If the problem originates from the ear, it may be necessary to perform a hearing test (audiogram), tympanogram (middle ear test), acoustic reflex and balance test (videonystagmography).

Vertigo Treatment
In the treatment of vertigo, treatment is applied depending on the cause (treatment of the diseases caused) or treatment to reduce the complaints. Vestibular rehabilitation aims to correct disorders in the balance system by using body movements that may trigger vertigo problems. Medication is mostly used in emergency situations and in the first days of nausea. Vertigo surgery may be preferred in cases of perilymphatic fistula and superior canal dehiscence.
